BCA Vienna Signature Course: HIS 205: Crossroads of Europe

All students take the three-credit course HIS:205 Crossroads of Europe as part of the BCA Vienna program. It serves our students as the primary source for gaining historical and cultural orientation in Vienna, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. The course focuses on the city as a geographical, political, cultural, and artistic crossroads at the heart of Europe and uses the city itself as a classroom.

Coverage will range from Roman times to the Austro-Hungarian Empire under the Habsburgs during the early modern period, all the way up to Austria’s present-day role within the European Union. The course will help students understand how Vienna has been and remains a perpetually emerging and evolving modernity in politics, culture and the arts since the late 19th century.
