The BCA resident director will take you on a number of excursions in Trinidad & Tobago throughout the semester. All costs are included in the program fee. Excursion destinations are likely to change from year to year, however, students typically visit a combination the following:
- Central Trinidad – A Mini Island Tour:
The tour takes us to Central Trinidad where we visit the main city, Chaguanas and its fresh produce market & bazaar street.
Taste the local fruits! We continue to a small authentic pottery making workshop, the 85ft tall statue of Lord Hanuman & adjoining Ashram, the Hindu Temple in the Sea and cremation Site and an East Indian Museum. Our tour concludes with a traditional roti lunch. The tour may be extended to include a visit to a Cocoa Estate. You will experience Traditional Cocoa Production including a cocoa house deep in the countryside. An authentic beautiful experience.
- Trinidad Highlights Tour
This includes a short city tour of the highlights of Port of Spain including the “Magnificent Seven” colonial-style buildings and downtown Port of Spain. Visit the panoramic Fort George. Then the scenic North Coast with a stop at Maracas Bay Lookout for photos and local snacks. The bus tour next takes us to the Maracas Beach for bathing and the famous “Bake & Shark” (stop approx. 1.5 hrs). Changing facilities & beach chairs available.
- Cultural Experience (Wild Fowl Trust, Debe, Harris Promenade & Anaparima Hill
Journey to south of island to the Point-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust, a wetland habitat that is home to locally endangered wetland birds. The Trust is ideal for nature lovers, especially birdwatchers, who can view various waterfowl in their natural habitats. We then go on to Debe to the “Indian Delicacies Village” and here you sample hot and tasty delicacies such as saheenas, doubles, aloo pies, phoulorie, katchowrie all laced with chutney. Remnants of the Old Sugar Cane Plantations can be seen along the way. A visit to the industrial capital of Trinidad; stopping at Harris Promenade where you can see the last train. Continue to Anaparima Hill, a site that was sacred to the Amerindians lures you with pride as the cardinal points of east, west north and south fills your vision. A clear view of the horizon of the South American coastline of Venezuela can be seen from here.
- Tobago Day Trip – Argyle Waterfall, Buccoo Reef & Pigeon Point
Knowledge, adventure and relaxation best describe your day in the sister isle of Tobago. On arrival in Tobago you will be taken on a guided bus tour to Scarborough for a short stop at Fort King George. We then proceed to the Argyle Waterfall where you take an easy hike to the falls to swim or just enjoy the peaceful environment.
Next stop is Pigeon Point Heritage Park for a hot lunch at Renmar’s Beach Restaurant before moving on to the highlight of the day – the Glass Bottom Boat ride across to Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool. Here you can snorkel; swim or just relax on board. En route to the airport for your return trip you stop at Store Bay to visit the craft market.
