Thank you for considering BCA’s Ireland program! I hope that you will choose to partake in this incredible study abroad experience.
Your main base of Ireland study will be in Maynooth on the beautiful campus of the Maynooth University set amongst beautiful 19th century gardens and courtyards, criss-crossed by stunning Harry Potteresque university buildings. This lively historic university town has everything a student needs and a pace of life which allows you to sample the “real Ireland” where people have time to chat and where there are no strangers, “only friends waiting to be introduced”.
Plus, the amazing cultural city of Dublin is just a short train or bus ride away. Dublin, the prize-winning “UNESCO City of Literature,” received this international badge of honour because of its rich historical and literary past. As a BCA student, you will visit many of the places made famous by their literary associations with some of the greatest Irish writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and William Butler Yeats. Dublin is brim-full of history, culture, adventure, sightseeing possibilities, and is an excellent base from which to explore the whole of Ireland. Not only will you be partaking in several excursions, but I will also be on hand to help you map out your own cultural adventures across Ireland and beyond.
I hope you decide to take this journey with BCA Study Abroad! Stand ready to have your preconceptions modified, your stereotypes adjusted and your insights enriched by a brimming tapestry of history, politics and society. Ireland and its great wealth of history bespeak of past events and modern challenges and all this awaits your discovery! On our programme, you will experience this heady mix of cultures “head on” and quickly become part of its rich cultural traditions.
In Ireland, you are going to discover how through heart-felt respect for diversity even the most conflicted histories can be amicably shared. “Céad míle fáilte” (one hundred thousand welcomes), I look forward to making your BCA Study Abroad experience memorable and brim-full with insights which will stay with you in the years ahead.
