Barcelona is set on the Mediterranean coast within easy reach of the Costa Brava and the Pyrenees Mountains. One of the most exciting and interesting cities in Europe, it offers a mix of ancient and modern traditions. BCA Barcelona students benefit from countless cultural options, including opera, symphonies, dozens of museums and festivals throughout the year, and a vibrant social scene, including many cafés , restaurants and shops.
Housing & Meals
You will reside with a host family while you live in Spain. BCA generally places one student per family to encourage cultural and language immersion. Host families play an integral role in helping students learn more about Barcelona, Spain, and the various aspects of Spanish culture. Students often point out living with their family as one of the highlights of the program.
The location of the housing varies, with some families located near the campus and others a bit farther away. All students will have access to the subway or bus system for easy transportation to the university and around the city
Three daily meals will be provided by your host family. BCA students usually praise the Spanish home cooking (based on the Mediterranean diet), and enjoy most of their meals at their host homes. Alternatively, according to your schedule, families will provide you with a packed lunch to eat on campus.
All BCA host families will have Internet access available in their homes. Besides, there are computers at the University of Barcelona campus that you will be able to use. However, given the number of University of Barcelona students on campus, it may be difficult to access the computer at times. If you cannot wait for a computer station to open, you may want to visit one of the many Internet cafés located throughout the city, as they generally have reasonable prices.
Barcelona has an excellent bus and subway system (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona or TMB for short) that provides easy access to all parts of the city. Fees for local transportation are not included in the BCA program fee.
