Hideo Gets Crafty

Our program had the privilege of spending an afternoon with an indigenous community called the Cofán. We bonded with the children by playing games, participating in theater activities, painting a mural together, and sharing tasty snacks. This picture shows BCA student Hideo Suzuki attempting to learn how to twist threads together in order to weave crafts. Members of the Cofán community turned out to be much better artisans than we were, but they were patient with us and we both enjoyed this afternoon of cultural exchange. After loving our time there, a few members of BCA created a website and blog to share our experience there and let the world know about this underrepresented yet amazing community. -Sarah Yaccino, Quito, Ecuador, Spring 2015
